Temper by Layne Fargo is available now!

Norma’s Review

Wowza!!! Sensual, enthralling, & edgy!

Okay, there was definitely something about LAYNE FARGO’S writing style that totally sucked me in. The narrative was so seductive that I was totally entranced with what I was reading and could not put this book down. I am actually quite surprised with how much I enjoyed this book because I don’t normally do too well with some of the content that this book had to offer. I was just as obsessed with finding out what was going on here as these characters were and that is all I’m going to say about that. LOL

TEMPER by LAYNE FARGO is a riveting, suspenseful, brisk, and dark psychological thriller that was absolutely unputdownable. It’s a storyline that appears to be the same old, same old but let me tell you there isn’t anything even remotely similar here to anything that I have ever read before. Once I started reading it I was hooked and so absorbed in this juicy storyline that I was flipping those pages as fast as I possibly could.

LAYNE FARGO delivers quite the impressive, clever, tension-filled and well-written read here that is told in short alternating chapters between the perspectives of our two main characters, Kira and Joanna. She excels in holding you in its grasp with all the character manipulation and foreboding going on here. I was super curious every step of the way and these characters definitely made this quite the entertaining and immersive read for me.

Norma’s Stats:
Cover: The cover of this book is just as sensual as the book. It has this velvety soft feel to it that is absolutely irresistible. I was a little proud carrying around this book. LOL
Title: Clever, suspenseful, intriguing and a fabulous representation to storyline. I love the title of this book. So good!
Writing/Prose: Well-written, seductive, steamy, captivating, alluring, enthralling, and readable.
Plot: Clever, intriguing, dark, intense, seductive, alluring, steamy, suspenseful, riveting, fast-paced, absorbing, enjoyable and entertaining. An absolutely fabulous storyline!!!! There is a little bit of explicit sexual content as well as some profanity.
Ending: A fabulous and explosive resolution that was a little bit expected but still left me feeling elated and totally satiated. Loved it!
Overall: 4.5 Stars! It was such an irresistible, enjoyable, fun and entertaining book to read. I thoroughly enjoyed the reading experience!!! Would definitely recommend!

Thank you so much to Simon & Schuster Canada and Layne Fargo for my complimentary copy. It was quite the memorable reading experience!!

The Flight Girls by Noelle Salazar @noelle_salazar @harlequinbooks #harlequinmira #theflightgirls #travelingsistersread

The Flight Girls by Noelle Salazar is available now!

Brenda’s Review

The Flight Girls makes for an inspiring, lighter historical fiction that explores the dynamics between the characters rather than the historical events to the story. The story focuses on one women’s strength and will to follow her passion here with our well developed main character Audrey Coltrane.   Her passion leads her to joining the relatively unknown, Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) during WWII.

Noelle Salazar does a great job here dramatizing the camaraderie as she explores the compelling friendships between the women of the WASP.  She adds some romance here as well for Audrey that added a bit more drama than I would have liked. I love stories that focus on the strong women of WWII and Noelle Salazar sure delivers here with these women who each have joined the WASP for their own reasons.  I enjoyed the dynamics here and the connections formed between the women and was drawn into their world. I could feel the emotional depth of the story here with the women’s strength and fears as a team as well as Audrey’s own emotions. I could visualize what it might have been like for the real strong and courageous pilots.   I highly recommend for a lighter historical fiction that is inspired by the real women pilots.

Norma’s Review

Fascinating, touching & entertaining!

THE FLIGHT GIRLS by NOELLE SALAZAR is an enlightening, powerful and emotionally compelling historical fiction novel that has us following along fictionalized character, Audrey Coltrane and her involvement in the WASP program (Women Airforce Service Pilots) during World War II.

NOELLE SALAZAR delivers an excellent, heartfelt, intriguing and well-written read here with wonderful, relatable, and well developed characters.  The story is told from the first person perspective of our main character, Audrey Coltrane and I absolutely loved her voice. She definitely captured my attention and my heart as well as the other WASP women.  The bond that these women shared was absolutely beautiful and I absolutely loved and admired how courageous and brave they were.

At times I felt that this storyline was simplified and rushed a little bit though because there was this strong romantic theme that I wasn’t really expecting and sort of took away from the main historical story for me.  In the end though I was able to put all my concerns aside and had me rooting for a happy ending for Audrey and James.

Lindsay’s Review

4 stars!  Adventurous, heart wrenching and inspiring!

Audrey Coltrane is a young female pilot whose passion for flying started when she was a child.   When the war begins, she signs up to train military pilots knowing she is helping her country prepare for what may come.  Facing constant criticism and stereotyping, she is proud of her career and the adventures she gets to take while doing something she loves.  This story is inspired by the real team of female pilots who trained soldiers in WWII.

I loved Audrey’s character!  She was intriguing and heart warming; her immense bravery was shocking and inspiring.  Though I found her journey to be predictable at times, it kept me engrossed and interested throughout.  The writing flowed beautifully and was well paced. There is a strong romance theme underlying the main wartime story which I found a tad much at times, but in the end I was rooting for the lovely couple.

This was an excellent debut from Noelle Salazar and I look forward to what she writes next!

Norma’s Stats:
Cover: My ARC didn’t come with the actual cover design so I feel that I am unable to actually voice how I feel about it. Although I think the actual book cover is quite beautiful.
Title: I absolutely love how intriguing and enticing that title is and think it’s a fantastic representation to storyline.
Writing/Prose: Well-written, entertaining, engaging, readable, and compelling.
Plot: Engrossing, heartfelt, interesting, steadily-paced, and entertaining.
Ending: A touching and happy ending that left me feeling satisfied.
Overall: The role that these brave female pilots played was absolutely extraordinary and made this quite the captivating and irresistible page-turner. Would recommend!

Norma’s Review

Tumultuous, puzzling, & a twisty page-turner!

This book reads extremely fast but while I was reading it though I was never fully immersed in this tale. There was nothing that was grabbing me here until well the end and then it’s like I wish that I would have spent the time with this book before reaching the end. The book is just as puzzling as the author’s writing style and that is all I’m going to say.

Oh my goodness where do I even start with this book……So let’s just say I have to go back and read the whole book over again well because that ending is making me want to do it. LOL

So I was definitely 3 stars all the way until I reached the ending which has made me bump it up to 4 stars. Take the time with this one…..

Norma’s Stats:
Cover: Stunning, striking, suspenseful, mesmerizing, impressive, impactful and fitting representation to storyline. #coverlove This book wins my vote for best cover design ever!!!
Title: Intriguing, relevant, suspenseful and a fitting representation to storyline.
Writing/Prose: Engaging, vivid, awkward, puzzling, readable, tense, and well-written. Okay, I know I’m all over the place with the author’s writing style but for the most part I found the writing style quite puzzling and thought it was packed full of riddles. Then the ending…..
Plot: Fast-paced, suspenseful, twisty, puzzling, entertaining, enjoyable, and somewhat underwhelming until closer to the end.
Ending: Oh my goodness what an absolutely fabulous resolution that totally flabbergasted me. I don’t know if I was just so uninterested in the whole storyline in the beginning that I just wasn’t retaining any of it but let me tell you that ending definitely brought the whole book home for me. So good!
Overall: Although I mostly had a problem with the execution throughout most of this book the ending definitely made up for it. This was a Traveling Friends Read and everyone else loved it and really didn’t have the same reading experience with this book as I did. So I would definitely recommend to give this one a try and how can you not with a cover like this one?

Thank you so much to Simon & Schuster Canada and Megan Miranda for gifting me a copy of this beautiful book! Did I already mention that I am rocking that cover? LOL

Brenda’s Review

Kimberly Belle nails it here with this intense thriller. Dear Wife is one exciting thriller that is not to be missed. The most exciting thing here is how Kimberly Belle takes a story that really isn’t a new story line and turns into an exciting, entertaining and compelling thriller. She introduces us to the characters through their different POV and kept us guessing on how they are connected by layering clues along the way, with those multiple plot twists. She reveals what we need to know right at the perfect time and skillfully keeps it feeling new without it ever feeling predictable making it entertaining yet plausible.

The link between our characters is the biggest surprise here with just how Kimberly Belle is able to create that high suspense and tension keeping that excitement going right up to that explosive ending that had me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend!

I received my copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner @SimonSchusterCA @jenniferweiner #MrsEverything

Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner is available now at your favourite bookstore!

Norma’s Review

Emotive, all-embracing, & a sweeping saga!

MRS. EVERYTHING by JENNIFER WEINER is a timely, rich, emotional, gripping, and thought-provoking saga that spans decades between two sisters, Jo and Bethie. We get an intimate look into each of these character’s lives as we follow along their story. MRS. EVERYTHING gives us a realistic and true to life story about women that well deals with everything. This was definitely an eye-opening reading experience for me as it delves deep into their everyday struggles as well as giving a voice to all women in a much broader stance.

JENNIFER WEINER delivers an interesting, engaging and beautifully written story here that was easily one of the most important, entertaining, and memorable books that I will ever read. This being my very first JENNIFER WEINER novel I was thoroughly impressed with how easily she was able to instill such an important message in her storytelling. I felt that the novel at times was quite deep but so worth spending the time with these two sisters. It was definitely a heartfelt story that was so heartwarming and felt perfectly complete in the end.

Norma’s Stats:
Cover: I love the look and feel to this cover and think that it is such a bold, striking, meaningful and fitting representation to storyline.
Title: Intriguing, thought-provoking, relevant, and a fabulous representation to storyline.
Writing/Prose: Engaging, effective, effortless, readable, beautiful, and well-written.
Plot: Steadily-paced, relatable, interesting, thought-provoking, touching, hopeful, heartfelt and powerful.
Ending: An impactful and bittersweet ending that moved me and left me feeling that I read something really special here.
Overall: This was not a quick and easy book for me to read as it was quite deep, emotional, and raw. It is one to savour! Would recommend!

Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey @BerkleyPub @KerryAnn

Happy Pub day to Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey! This is one not to be missed if you love Rom Coms or if you want to venture out of your normal and try something different.

Brenda’s Review

Waiting For Tom Hanks is another book that took me out of my normal and it was one I didn’t really have high hope of controlling my eyes from rolling.  Well, let me tell you just how much I loved this one. There might have been some dancing going on after reading this with the way this one wrapped up.   I was so pleased by that ending. Maybe there is hope for this unromantic sole.

Waiting for Tom Hanks is a fresh modern take on a rom com and if I was to sum it up in one word it would be irresistible.  However, there is so much more to this one. The story has all the plot elements to a rom com and at times it did feel it was going to go in the direction of those predictable, overused plot lines but nope Kerry Winfrey keeps it fresh, spinning a very interesting, entertaining, hilarious, heartfelt story here.

I loved the colorful, quirky and very likable characters in this story and the dynamics between them.  I really enjoyed following Annie through her conflicts and adventures as she searches for her Tom Hanks.

I loved the ending, did I mention that already.  It was on the super romantic side that is known in rom com but in such an unique comical way. I was at the edge of my seat, rooting for our couple and thoroughly entertained by the dynamics between these characters.   I highly recommend!

This was my pick for the prompt Short & sweet: Read a book with less than 100 pages (or a book you can finish in one sitting) from the Goodreads Summer Reading Challenge.  I read it in one sitting but I did fall asleep halfway through. In the Traveling Friends group, a few of us agreed it still counted. Lol

Norma’s Review

WAITING FOR TOM HANKS by KERRY WINFREY was such an engaging, fun, wonderful, amusing, quick, and endearing rom-com tale that was a pure delight to read. I pretty much had a smile on my face the whole time I was reading this book.

Sweet, charming, & a purely lighthearted pleasure!

KERRY WINFREY delivers a well-written, highly entertaining and enjoyable read here with loveable, quirky and realistic characters. I was totally smitten with these characters and this storyline that had me eagerly flipping those pages as fast as I could.

This was more than your classic rom-com tale as it’s written in such a way that felt so refreshing and new. I thought it was such an ingenious and interesting angle using Tom Hanks references from those beloved romantic comedies throughout this novel. What Tom Hanks represents and stands for in this story is absolutely swoon-worthy and so perfectly meaningful. I think we can all attest to wanting our very own “Tom Hanks” love story!

I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t get enough of this feel-good story and quirky characters.

Norma’s Stats:
