Random Book Musings: Do you have any bookish goals for 2019? #travelingsistersread #BookBloggers

Hello everyone and Happy New Year to you all! I hope that everyone has a readiculously great 2019 in books!

I always have these random bookish questions that I’m curious about so I ask our Traveling Sisters a weekly (sometimes more) book related question. We thought it would be fun and interesting to take some of those questions to our blog and see what you all think or do. I hope that you will also join in on the discussion with us.

Here is my very first book musings question for 2019!

Do you have any specific bookish goals for 2019? Did you make any New Year’s Resolutions? Did you make your Goodreads 2018 Challenge and whereabouts did you set your challenge for 2019?

Norma’s 2019 Bookish Goals
1. Read 125 Books in 2019 (I surpassed my 2018 Reading Challenge of 115 books.)
2. Remember reading is my passion and don’t lose sight of that!
3. Be more organized when it comes to blogging.
4. Review books right after or soon after finishing them or else I forget and it will not get done.
5. Plan, organize & accomplish! (All platforms)

I might be back with more goals as I am sure I have more! LOL

Yes, I made a New Year’s Resolution this year and I should be able to master this one. I better anyway! LOL

So I used to be a smoker and started smoking when I was 16 years old – quit through my pregnancies and started up again. I quit for good when I was 25 years old and quit for 20 years then I had a really stressful and hard year a few years back and started smoking again. I smoked for 3 years and quit to vaping. I vaped for 2 years and on January 1st, 2019 I decided to quit cold turkey. I have had a few notions that I need it but I am proud to say that I am tackling those cravings successfully! It is still early days but I am convinced that I am done and don’t want to do it anymore!

Brenda’s 2019 Bookish Goals

I set a goal for 152 books last year and I read 156. I made my goal a bit less this year and set it for 125 books.

My goal is to read a little less this year. I should be spending some more time at home with my husband hopefully this year. He is a little needy of my time and that leaves less time in my reading world and spending more time at home means more things that need to be done and less reading. lol .

I do like a little chaos in my reading world and I have a lot going on in that world. However, I need to be more organized so everyone else knows what is going on. I plan on doing less group reads this year so we can focus more on each. Which means less books on my shelves. Often we can’t keep up. My plan is to get our group reads organized a month in advance and clearly post on our platforms so it’s easier for friends to know what we have going on and where. I am already behind on that. lol

I really need to work on my fear of missing a good book and try to simplify the number of books I receive, request and buy. My goal this year is to focus on a couple publishers we enjoy working with and control that fear of missing out.

Lindsay’s 2019 Bookish Goals

I surpassed my goal of reading 100 books in 2018 and set the same 100 book goal for 2019. No other goals or resolutions for me this year. Looking forward to many wonderful reads in 2019 with all of you!! 💗

    Last 2 are also bookish goals as lots of books to films
    I ought to join your group reads, but I wonder why I am playing catch up… 😂 😂

  2. Your bookish goals all seem to be focused around putting your personal goals first, which I think is excellent. Thanks for sharing them!

    I don’t make resolutions but do believe in goals, especially when it comes to books. I plan to read 150 books this year, complete at least 10 series and get up to date in 20. I also want to stay ahead of my blog commitments and not worry about posting something everyday. And, I want to enjoy my visits to my blogging friends.

  3. I surpassed my reading challenge for 2018 but left it the same (75) for 2019. I tend to get all panicky when I fall behind! My goal is to try and catch up on reading some of my owned books and to not feel bad if I dnf a book. I don’t make resolutions any more – I can’t live with the guilt – but my intention is to get around to some serious decluttering. Good for Norma for quitting smoking/vaping. My husband and I quit smoking 1-1/2 years ago after probably 50 years of smoking so I know how hard it is. Your blog is really enjoyable!

    1. Tiffany – it is a combination of the wonderful world of GoodReads (tracks everything!) and the amazingness of Brenda that keep us organized. We would be lost without both! 😉

  5. Loved reading about your goals ladies! I’ve actually not made any hard or fast regulations for myself this year. I kind of want to ease off on the pressure I so often put on myself and not worry if I don’t meet certain challenges. I have however set my Goodreads at 200 books 😱 But that can always be changed if I’m not keeping up!! 😂

  6. I have some challenges that I am doing, but they are not really goals just a way to nudge me out of my comfort zone. I think my biggest goal is to get my TBR down and to pace my blog tours. I got in over my head for the first few months of this year and I need to use a calendar so I only have one a week instead of several, sometimes in the same day. Good luck with the goals you have all outlined for yourselves.

It is so easy to say yes to all those blog tours without realizing the work and time that goes into them. I’m glad that you are going to use a calendar to keep track of them instead of overbooking yourself. I wish you all the luck!!!! 🙂

  7. 1st, Norma, good on you for setting aside vaping! I was actively smoking by the time I was 15. Quit through my first pregnancy and then started up again when I finished nursing. That was 1996. Fast forward to 2008, I’m about to get married, and planning on getting pregnant, so I quit cold turkey on March 1st, 2008 and haven’t had one since. If I hadn’t gotten pregnant in 2010, I probably would have gone back to it, if I’m being totally honest. Between 1996 and 2008, I quit and failed at least a half dozen times. I don’t think about it every day anymore, but I have my moments, at least once a week, where I yearn for it. My point is, I get it. I totally get it. I’m super proud of you for trying to let go of the vaping, and I sincerely wish you the utmost best in succeeding! You’ve got this!

    As for me, I always fail at resolutions, mostly because I overcomplicate them. This year, I’m keeping it simple. I’m trying to stay on track with my reading and blogging, make some headway on my existing galleys while minimizing my requests, and making time to read books I already have or that have been on my personal TBR for a long time – galleys, owned, print, digital, whatever. As for my non-reading goals, it all comes down to one word: health. In a nutshell, everything I want to work on this year ties back to that – my physical health and my emotional health.

    1. Thank you so much, Myndi and I so appreciate your support and understanding!! That is awesome and it is so nice when someone understands and feels the same. I am on day 14 and still no vaping for me. I do think about it some but not constant like I was. LOL

      I think you have the absolute best all around resolutions & goals when it comes to your reading as well as your personal goals. I love them!!! I wish you all the best!!
